Approximately twenty-five thousand homes in south-east Queensland woke up without power on the start of the week after powerful weather events impacted the region, producing powerful gusts topping over 100 km/h.

Large Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Destruction

Residents observed large ice chunks as large as 7cm in certain regions. Meteorological experts confirmed that various areas across the state had been affected by substantial ice precipitation.

Emergency crews were focused on reestablishing energy supply throughout the impacted areas, with dozens of response units deployed to handle the extensive power failures.

Victorian Weather Woes

At the same time, nearly one thousand residents in Victoria also experienced energy failures after the capital city experienced its wettest day in over 500 days.

Rescue organizations responded to 598 emergency reports across the area, mostly for property damage but also for collapsed vegetation and flooding.

• Werribee region - recorded considerable storm damage
• Hoppers Crossing - various assistance requests
• Wyndham - 179 emergency requests

During the peak on the previous day, more than 28,000 electricity consumers in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Moist weather were predicted to continue along much of the state's eastern regions this next several days as a weather pattern continued to attract humidity against the shoreline.

The following day was expected to become the wettest day, with ongoing storm activity expected across different parts of both regions.

Health officials cautioned that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the countryside regions, particularly given the ongoing climate situation.
